My Incredible Fixer-Upper Journey: More Space, Unexpected Changes, and Exciting Additions!
First of all, can we talk about the amazing closet space I gained? It’s like a dream come true!
During our renovation, we decided to replace our HVAC unit. Originally, we had it in the hall closet, but we thought it would be better to move it to the attic. Little did we know that this decision would lead to a whirlwind of changes.
Fixer Upper Houses
As the walls, ceiling, and floors were being demoed, we, the supposed experts, kept coming up with new ideas that would work better than our original plan. We must have changed our minds at least five times! But in the end, we were able to visualize the final product and we couldn’t be happier.
Remodel Closet Difference
Originally, we thought we would have two doors going into the new closet space, but as the renovation progressed, we realized that a single door would suffice due to the addition of a refrigerator. Speaking of which, that was a decision we debated on. At first, I didn’t see the need for two refrigerators in the house. But after some thought, we figured it would be convenient, especially after hosting a big barbeque this season and needing extra storage for all the food. So, we bought another refrigerator, complete with an ice maker!
Renovation Construction Dreams
Of course, adding the refrigerator meant getting the plumber back out to the house to install a water line. This meant going back under the house to the subfloor to tap into a water line for our new appliance. But hey, it’s all part of the process, right? Throughout this renovation journey, we had to take into account various factors like water lines, gas lines, electrical work, and dryer vents. It definitely kept us on our toes!
Renovations Fun
In our case, I became DK’s assistant as he worked under the house installing a new dryer vent duct. It felt like being a surgeon’s assistant, handing him tools and parts while he worked his magic. One thing we learned during this renovation is the importance of communication. We talked extensively with each other and our general contractor to coordinate all the changes and ensure everything went smoothly.
Fixer Upper Living
If you’re embarking on a home renovation, big or small, don’t underestimate the power of good communication. Discuss your ideas with your significant other and involve your general contractor in the process. They should be in regular contact with you, keeping you informed about each step and who will be working on your project.
In our case, we didn’t anticipate the mess that came with opening up the ceiling, but we dealt with it and made the necessary repairs. Now that our modifications are complete – the refrigerator is in place, gas and water lines have been rerouted, and the HVAC is installed in the attic – it’s time to tackle the closet renovation!
So, if you’re ready for an adventure, grab a cup of coffee and start planning your own fixer-upper project. Just remember, good communication and flexibility are key to a successful renovation!
