Laptop battery? Dead.
Phone battery? Barely breathing.
SUV warranty? Expired.
Welcome to my unplanned “technology remodel.”
One of these replacements was expected, the other two… not so much. I always advise homeowners to be prepared before starting a home remodel. Turns out, I needed my own advice when it came to my tech tools and transportation.
Remodeling vs. Real Life: My Tech Overhaul
If you asked me how to prepare for a kitchen-living-dining remodel, I’d have a well-laid plan. But replacing a laptop, a phone, and an SUV all in the same month? There was no blueprint for this kind of upgrade!
🖥️ Laptop Down, Productivity at Risk
My Surface Pro laptop had been my reliable companion, until it couldn’t keep up with Zoom calls, picture editing, or even staying charged.
After researching the best laptops for business, I went with a Dell laptop.
I hoped to keep my old wireless keyboard and ergonomic mouse, but Ian from NerdsToGo Plano gave me the bad news, they weren’t compatible. So off to Micro Center I went…

That store is a tech jungle! But I walked away with a new wireless setup that’s even better than my old one.
📱 My Samsung Phone Upgrade (Finally)
My Samsung phone, bless its heart, needed constant charging. I upgraded to the latest Samsung model in a bold, can’t-miss-it color.

Now I can take calls, run apps, and post remodeling updates without being tethered to a wall outlet.
🚗 Ford Expedition: More Screens Than My Laptop
Replacing my 2019 Ford Expedition was the only planned purchase, but I wasn’t prepared for the massive tech leap.

I accidentally used my husband’s keyfob, and the car reset everything to his settings, mirrors, seats, climate. I needed a tutorial just to drive!
Thank goodness I’d been listening to Jerry Reynolds on WBAP’s Car Pro Show and signed up at CarPro.com. They pointed me to Five Star Ford Lewisville where Andrea Ballard and Craig Brock made the process smooth and stress-free.
👨💻 Tech Support Is Like Hiring a Good Contractor
As a remodeling pro, I always say, hire people who know what they’re doing. That applies to tech upgrades too.
At a Plano Chamber of Commerce meeting, I met Caleb from NerdsToGo. He sent Josh and Ian, who set up my new laptop, phone, printers, scanners, and label maker, right from my office. (Tip: Write down everything you use before switching tech. I forgot half!)
Remodeling. Tech. Same Story.
Whether it’s a kitchen remodel or switching devices:
- There’s a learning curve.
- It takes a team.
- And it’s always more complex than it seems.
But with the right support, it gets done, and done right.
If you’re overwhelmed by tech transitions, don’t go it alone. Just like remodeling, it’s better with experts by your side.
Need tips on remodeling your home (or surviving tech chaos)? Stick around, I’ve got more stories, real-life advice, and maybe even a few laughs coming your way.

Wow! Thats a lot! I’m about ready to take the plunge and get a Mac. I’ll definitely need a few tutorials!
Wow, you are taking the plunge! Good luck with the switch!
