Remodeling a home can sometimes feel like you’re slogging through mud, literally and emotionally. But oh, the satisfaction when you finally move from the crawl space to standing tall inside your future master bedroom addition!
Crawling Out and Moving Up
After what felt like forever underground, we wrapped up the crawl space renovation with a sturdy French drain, a layer of river rock, and a durable 66-mil membrane liner.
No more crawling, up we go!
Finally, our home remodeling journey was gaining vertical momentum.
Framing the Foundation: Girders, Joists, and Subfloor
Once the groundwork was complete, it was time to tackle the real bones of our build. We installed the girders and joists, and then layered pink foam board insulation underneath the subfloor for extra warmth and efficiency.

Even though it might not look glamorous from above, this phase of framing a home addition is all about smart layering and thoughtful prep.
This DIY home remodel is teaching us that what’s under your feet really matters!
Making Space: Saying Goodbye to the Old
Next came a big milestone (and a few nervous butterflies): demo day!
We removed part of the original structure to make way for the new roofline, ensuring a seamless connection between the old home and the new master bedroom addition.
Letting go of what was opens the door, literally, to what will be.

Framing the Future: Walls Go Up
This is the moment things start to feel real.
With the walls framed, we could finally walk through the new space. I stood in what would be our bedroom. I pointed out where the bathroom would go.
And yes, I squealed when I saw the corner that would become my glam closet.

Let the Pinteresting Begin: Closet Goals Activated
You better believe I had a secret “Closet Goals” board on Pinterest way before demo day. And now? It was time to make those pins come to life.
This custom closet design is all mine, and I wanted it to reflect not just organization, but me.

Here’s what I planned:
- Shoe shelves
- Hanging space galore
- Built-in dresser drawers
- Jewelry storage (finally!)
Coming from a cramped closet that barely fit my shoes (stacked in plastic bins like Jenga), this felt like the ultimate closet makeover.
From Stacked Bins to Built-Ins
This closet isn’t just functional, it’s emotional.
It’s about creating space that makes me feel calm, confident, and, yes, just a little fancy. I sketched layout ideas, took measurements, and started thinking ahead to finish details and cabinetry.
Designing this dream closet build has been a personal highlight in our home improvement project.
