Have You Ever Dreamed About Your Perfect Closet?
Have you ever walked into a closet, maybe at a friend’s house, in a model home, or even while scrolling through Pinterest, and thought,
“I wish my closet felt like that.”
Not because it was huge, or filled with expensive clothes. But because it looked peaceful.
Everything had a place. It felt organized. It felt like getting ready in the morning would be easy instead of frustrating.
I think we’ve all had moments like that. And isn’t it funny how quickly our imagination starts filling in the details?
“I’d have shelves for my shoes.”
“I’d finally have a place for my handbags.”
“I’d add better lighting.”
“Maybe even a little bench to sit on while I get ready.”
Before long, you’re designing your dream closet in your head. And honestly, that’s one of my favorite parts of any remodeling project.
Before anyone picks up a hammer…
Before measurements are taken…
Before cabinets are designed…
There’s a moment when you simply allow yourself to imagine what’s possible.
Because before you can build a closet you’ll love, you have to imagine what “love” looks like for you. That doesn’t mean you need the biggest walk-in closet on Pinterest. It doesn’t mean you need custom cabinetry from floor to ceiling. It simply means giving yourself permission to ask,
“If I could change one thing about my closet, what would it be?”
There are no wrong answers. This is your closet, your home, and your lifestyle.
And that’s exactly what makes dreaming so important.

Now that you’ve spent some time understanding your current closet, let’s have a little fun…
Step 1: Discover Your Style
One thing I’ve learned after helping homeowners remodel their homes is that most people already know what they like; they just haven’t given themselves permission to trust it.
This isn’t about choosing what’s trendy or copying someone else’s Pinterest board.
It’s about creating a space that feels like you.
Think about the rooms in your home where you feel the most comfortable. Maybe you’re drawn to bright, airy spaces with lots of natural light. Or perhaps you love warm wood tones, vintage pieces, and collected treasures that tell a story.
Your closet should feel like a natural extension of your home and your personality.
One of the easiest ways to begin discovering your style is to start collecting inspiration.
Take the time to browse Pinterest and save photos that make you stop and think,
“I love that.”
Don’t worry if you can’t explain why just yet. Patterns will begin to emerge.
You may notice you’re consistently drawn to clean, simple spaces. Or maybe you love dramatic lighting, rich colors, wallpaper, or beautiful built-ins.
As you gather inspiration, ask yourself:
What catches my eye first?
How do I want my closet to feel when I walk in?
What details make this space feel inviting?
Would I enjoy getting ready here every morning?
There aren’t any right or wrong answers. This is your opportunity to create a closet that reflects your lifestyle, your personality, and the season of life you’re living today.
As you start gathering ideas, don’t let them get lost in screenshots and Pinterest boards. I’ve created a free Closet Guide to help you organize your inspiration, jot down your favorite features, and start creating a vision for a closet that truly fits your home and your lifestyle.

Now that you’ve started imagining what’s possible, let’s talk about one of the most enjoyable parts of planning your dream closet: discovering your style.
Here are a few popular design styles to get your creativity flowing.
Bohemian
If you love collected treasures, warm textures, layered rugs, plants, vintage pieces, and a relaxed feel, a Bohemian-inspired closet might be just your style. It’s creative, comfortable, and wonderfully unique.

Modern
Modern closets are all about clean lines, simple finishes, and letting the organization shine. Think bright spaces, minimal clutter, and a calming atmosphere that makes getting ready feel effortless.

Art Deco
Do you love a little drama? Art Deco combines bold patterns, geometric details, rich colors, and luxurious finishes. It’s perfect for someone who wants their closet to make a statement.

Contemporary
Contemporary style blends timeless design with today’s trends. Clean lines, neutral colors, natural materials, and thoughtful pops of color create a space that feels fresh without feeling dated.

Eclectic
Maybe you don’t fit neatly into one style—and that’s okay.
Eclectic design mixes different colors, textures, furniture, and accessories to create something that’s completely your own. It’s personal, collected, and full of character.

Shabby Chic
If vintage charm makes you smile, you may love a shabby chic closet. Soft colors, distressed finishes, antique-inspired furniture, and elegant details create a space that feels cozy and welcoming.

Minimalist
Minimalist closets focus on simplicity and function. Clean lines, thoughtful organization, neutral colors, and uncluttered surfaces create a peaceful space where everything has a purpose. Sometimes less really is more.

The wonderful thing about all of these styles is that they aren’t rules.
They’re simply inspiration.
You may love the clean lines of a modern closet but also want the warmth of natural wood. Maybe you’re drawn to minimalist organization with a beautiful chandelier for a little personality.
That’s the beauty of designing your own closet.
You get to create a space that’s uniquely yours.
Your Style Is Just the Beginning
The wonderful thing about designing your dream closet is that there isn’t one “right” way to do it.
The best closets aren’t the ones that look exactly like a Pinterest photo or a magazine spread.
They’re the ones that make everyday life a little easier…and feel like home every time you open the door. So don’t rush this part of the process, but take time to gather ideas.
Save the photos that make you smile.
Pay attention to the spaces that make you think, “I could see myself here.”
Before long, you’ll start to notice patterns, and those patterns will help you create a closet that’s not only beautiful but perfectly suited to the season of life you’re living today.
And remember, you don’t have to have every decision figured out today.
Right now, you’re simply creating a vision. And that vision will make every decision that comes next a little easier.
In the next blog, we’ll move beyond the overall style and start imagining the details, the storage solutions, lighting, organization, and thoughtful touches that transform a beautiful closet into one that’s designed specifically for the way you live.
I can’t wait to show you what’s next.

Great post! I love seeing the different styles.
