Have you ever chased a big dream that took years of planning, hoping, pivoting, and pressing forward—even when the road got bumpy?
That’s what this little house has been for us.
Ten years ago, this home was just a resting place—somewhere to park our trailers and tuck away our construction gear. It wasn’t glamorous, but it had potential. A diamond in the rough. I remember my family watching closely, wondering how I’d adjust to the slower pace of country life.
So many plans were made. Then changed. Then changed again. Budgets shifted. Timelines stretched. But we kept moving forward.
As the final deep clean wrapped up, our furniture came out of storage and into its new home. Appliances slid into place. The refrigerator even got its very own built-in cabinet. That’s when it hit me—this was real.
Let me take you on a tour of our finished open-concept living space.
Welcome to Our Light-Filled, Vaulted Living Area
We opened up the ceilings to create an airy, spacious feel, and dressed them with beautiful Cypress beams and a shiplap ceiling that adds warmth and character. The living room layout is cozy yet open, with a couch and two swivel chairs that offer plenty of comfy seating for guests and family alike.

A Thoughtfully Defined Entryway
Right as you walk through the front door, there’s a small foyer with its own ceiling—subtly set apart from the living space by a Cypress header. It creates just the right amount of definition while keeping the open flow intact.

Let’s Talk Lighting
Instead of traditional can lights, we opted for the Continuum Track Lighting System, mounted right onto the Cypress beams. We paired it with ET2 lighting fixtures, which offer a sleek and modern upgrade that blends seamlessly into the space.
The Perfect Spot for the TV
Deciding where to put the TV (and whether to add furniture below it) took some thought, but we love the result! Our 75” Samsung Frame TV is one of my favorite features. When it’s off, it transforms into beautiful artwork—and I can even add a custom mat around the image. It solves the “big black screen” dilemma beautifully.

Built-In Sound + Custom Details
We installed James Loudspeaker SA-A2-4 speakers in the ceiling, so no matter where we are in the room, the sound is crisp and clear. DK even custom-cut the slots for both the speakers and A/C vents to blend perfectly into the shiplap ceiling.

Floors That Work for Life
With dogs in the house, we needed something durable. Our Lifeproof vinyl plank flooring gives us the look and feel of real wood, with long-lasting strength and water resistance. You can find the exact flooring here.

Finishing Touches: Window Treatments
For our window coverings, we chose Lutron blackout blinds in “Matric Silver” with a fabric-wrapped valance. They’re sleek, quiet, and so easy to raise and lower—form meets function beautifully.

It’s been a long journey, but seeing this dream come to life is worth every twist and turn along the way. We’re not done yet! There’s still more of the home to reveal.
👉 Don’t miss our next post where we’ll show you how we finished out the rest of the space. Trust me—you’re going to love it.
