Services that Assure Success
Successful
remodeling demands good information and a sound plan. It
also requires qualified service providers, clear documentation,
quality materials, and an environment of cooperation and
mutual respect. Your Remodeling Coach is prepared to help
you with any of these issues.
We
customize our services to fit your needs, protect your
resources, and assure your success. The following paragraphs
describe our key services, which include Coaching, Planning,
Qualification, and Project Coordination.
Coaching
Coaching
is the foundation for all our services. Coaching
provides you with the information and guidance you need
to make good decisions about remodeling your home. It may
be just a matter of answering some questions over the phone
or it may lead to the planning, qualifying, or project
qualification services described below.
Planning
This
service defines the best project for you within your budget.
Designing
and estimating are big factors in good planning. In
order to make decisions, you will need information. What
will it look like? How much will it cost? What would it
cost if we did this or we did that? You cannot be sure
you have a good plan until you've answered all your questions.
To
avoid wasting money, you will need to "begin with the end
in mind." Good planning considers your wants,
needs, priorities, expectations, budget, and existing conditions.
Planning allows you to understand what decisions need to
be made and what they will cost. Without good planning,
you find out after you've committed or spent the money!
Qualifying
The
goal of our Qualification service is to find qualified
designers and remodeling contractors for you. Unqualified
contractors know how to get around the existing system
and get hired by vulnerable homeowners. Working with
us assures that this will not happen to you.
When
qualifying your project designer, we interview
candidates and their recent clients. In the process,
we disqualify anyone who cannot design within his clients'
budget; cannot satisfy your timing requirements; lacks
the expertise you require; or whose fee schedule is out
of line with other professionals.
A
2008 survey revealed that only 52% of homeowners would
hire their contractor again. Were the other homeowners
less intelligent than you? No, but they sure could have
used help before they got into a contract with an unqualified
contractor.
We
appraise a contractor's current construction and business
skills, as well
as his honesty, integrity, and respectfulness. We check
his creditworthiness. We find out his reputation with
Building Departments in the areas where he works. And
we interview his current clients as well as the owners
of projects completed within the past six months.
Project Coordination
Project
coordination services are about saving you time. They
are primarily for families in which no one has time to
manage the flow of information. You are still in control
and you still have decisions to make, but your role can
be more passive.
The function
of a project coordinator is to prevent issues from
"falling through the cracks". The project coordinator
is like the owners' executive assistant. Depending on what
the owners want, the project coordinator:
- Schedules and documents meetings and
phone calls.
- Distributes minutes and telephone memos.
- Keeps a running Project
Issues and Actions list.
- Reviews the contract documents for
errors and omissions.
