"When
we first met to discuss the project, it was hard for us to picture
a dusty old attic as anything more than storage space. Your experience
and knowledge of older homes helped to answer many questions."
- Stewart Wong
"Updating
our kitchen and 1/2 bath was a remodeling experience that I wish
others in the industry would emulate. Working with older homes
is challenging since there are always unexpected hurdles that
need to be addressed. Tom and his team anticipated many of these
potential issues and solved them beforehand.
The crew was meticulous in its attention to detail
so that all work was very professional. Tom will not rest until
the task is done right.
It is a unique
pleasure not to worry about quality or if shortcuts are being
taken."

About Us
Tom
Davis, Head Coach
After
receiving his Masters degree in 1968, Tom Davis began his
career as Civil Engineer for Exxon before serving two
years in the US Army. In 1969 and 1970, Tom was responsible
for the layout and quality control of a highway reconstruction
project in Vietnam.
Tom's
favorite assignment with Exxon was his involvement with
a marine terminal project for their affiliate in Aruba.
"I
was responsible for the planning, design, and bid review in
the office in New Jersey, and then I spent a year in Aruba,
with my family, as the Owner's Representative for the construction.
Not exactly a hardship tour."
Tom
first observed the risks in remodeling in 1970, when he
became a homeowner. He saw that, despite all logic,
homeowners make simple mistakes that cause big problems. "Unlike
engineers, homeowners base choices on their emotions instead
of logic. Homeowners often choose their contractor based
on price and timing rather than qualifications and fail to
check our contract documents for completeness."
"As
a homeowner, I've been burned, I've lost time, and I've
lost money. I've been
extremely angry at my contractor and I've lost sleep plotting
revenge. It's very stressful. It is very emotional. It
needs to be fixed!"
As
a remodeling contractor from 1986 to 2006, Tom was learning
to coach. I learned how to listen to my clients' needs,
how to design solutions and estimate the costs. I learned
to double check contracts. I saw how skilled tradesmen
entered the industry by declaring themselves to be contractors.
I learned how they would tempt naive homeowners by offering
whatever price it would take to get work. And I watched
them fail because their expenses exceeded their incomes."
"I
became a consultant in 2006 to help homeowners to be safe
and successful when they remodel . I
learned the truth in the trite phrases 'You get what you
pay for' and 'Penny
wise and pound foolish' .
"The
solution is not reading a book or a website or watching
TV. You must understand
the risks in remodeling and do what it takes to minimize
them."
